Building websites and apps that scale with your organisation

    Website development

We have decades of experience creating highly customised WordPress and Drupal websites. Both platforms offer robust user management features, and nuanced control over content, which makes them ideal for larger organisations. We build fully custom themes are flexible down to the smallest details of navigation and layout. This allows your content teams to work with ease and confidence, and without the need for constant developer support.

Our approach favours fewer plugins, and more bespoke code. This not only enhances performance, but prevents the common vulnerabilities that hackers like to exploit. We also utilise techniques such as caching, compression and lazy-loading to ensure that pages render as quickly, and have the lowest possible carbon impact.

    Custom applications

Alongside traditional website development, we specialise in building custom applications tailored to your needs. One of our team’s biggest strengths is our ability to work seamlessly across multiple products and technologies. This means we can maintain a consistent design language and user experience across all your platforms, while also sharing features and integrations efficiently behind the scenes.

We take a platform-agnostic approach to development, creating a single React-based codebase that can be deployed across web, iOS, and Android. Using frameworks like Expo, we’re able to tap into native device capabilities such as GPS, camera, and Face ID. This ensures each user gets the best possible experience, no matter what device they’re using.

    API integrations

Our experience with large organisations has made us intimate with all kinds of third party integrations. Whether its CRM systems, membership platforms, event ticketing, donations, or recruitment tools – we’ve probably got experience with it, or something similar.

We’ll work with you from the start to identify the technologies and integrations you need, and ensure they are fully scoped and planned into our process. Above all else, we pride ourselves in flexibility. We’ll adapt our approach around the needs and technologies that suit your organisation’s own ways of working.

    Hosting & infrastructure

We regularly review and audit our hosting partners, selecting them based on key factors like uptime reliability, robust security standards, and strong sustainability commitments. As a B Corp, we actively measure the carbon impact of every website we host, so it’s essential that our partners use renewable energy and are working towards net zero.

On the technical side, we take care of the infrastructure to keep your site fast, stable, and responsive, even during periods of peak traffic. Where it adds value, we also implement a Content Delivery Network (CDN), helping to boost performance, improve reliability, and ensure faster load times for users wherever they are.

  • Icon showing accessibility

    Web standards & accessibility compliance

We believe that technology should benefit everyone, regardless of their ability or disability. That’s why we design and build everything we create to WCAG 2.2 AA standards as a baseline, and target higher levels of compliance when required to. We’re big believers in building to web standards, and our code is always accessible, semantic and logically structured.

We’re also well versed in local compliance rules, such as GDPR, Cookie Law and the UK’s Equality Act. We’ll work with you to ensure the correct security and privacy measures are put into place, and that compliance is thoroughly tested as part of a thorough QA phase.

    Performance optimisation

We build lightweight, optimised websites. Making use of cloud storage, CDN delivery and media optimisation. This helps us guarantee page load times of under 3 seconds. We can also set a ‘performance budget’ with our clients to hold ourselves accountable to a certain load speed or render time.
Our approach to development favours fewer plugins and more bespoke code, keeping pages light and performance strong. We also utilise techniques such as caching, compression and lazy-loading to ensure that pages render as quickly as possible.

As your digital partner, we’ll be on hand to improve your website over time, along with keeping things up-to-date and secure. After all, better performance means a better experience for your audiences. We conduct a regular website performance review for all of our clients. These audits identify further opportunities to enhance your website, and keep things running smoothly.

    Digital sustainability

Our technical choices are governed by the need to do social good, and reduce our impact on our environment. We don’t just want to do great work. We want to make a difference.
Sustainability comes in a number of forms. From the way we run our business, to the approach we take to developing products. We aim to be thoughtful in our design process, and avoid making stylistic decisions that might have a high carbon impact. From a technical point of view, we take great lengths to ensure pages are assets are rendered efficiently, and choose likeminded partners when it comes to third party services and hosting providers.

By being thoughtful in our process we’re able to build more sustainable websites and applications. Learn more in our sustainable web design checklist.
